To enter this menu, press the following sequence of keys on the remote control:

MENU - SCREEN MODE - 9 - 0 - 1 - 2

A new menu of options should appear.  The EXIT button will take you out of this menu.

The options are as follows:

"Demo Mode": This is described in section 1.1.4.

"Restore Factory Default": Deletes all recorded programs, and resets all user settings to factory defaults.

"Format Hard Drive": Reformats the hard drive (self explanatory). It is unclear whether this only reformats the partition that contains recorded programs, or the entire drive.

"Reset User Configuration": Resets all user information to the factory default, but leaves the recorded programs intact. This doesn't appear to reset the TVGOS system, but it may ask you to confirm your zip code.

"TV Guide": This is the TVGOS sub-menu, which contains two more items:

"Reset to Factory Defaults": This menu will return the TVGOS system to factory defaults. Warning: There is no warning before this reset is done. Selecting this option immediately performs this reset.
"G* Factory Test": This is a useful menu for checking for VBI packet reception. To use this test, you must switch to your Host Channel before entering the 9012 service menu. The test will show you various info, and will count VBI packets as "Good" if all is well with your Host Channel. Don't be concerned if the Serial and IR test are shows as "Fail" on the left side. Also, the downloading of VBI data doesn't mean that you are seeing guide data packets. This shows all VBI data (which can include things like Closed Caption info). It has also been reported that performing this test on your host channel (or possibly your Clock Set channel) will reset your clock if it is inaccurate. This doesn't work, however, if your Host Channel has not yet been established.

I was trying to force the digital channel as the host channel and accidentally clicked on "G* Factory Default" and now I am not getting anymore updates, not even from the analog channel.

I am in San Francisco area and the analog channel is 9 and the digital channel seems to be 5.1 but I cannot get either one to work and my TV-Guide list is empty. I have tried what I can for 3 days in a row and don't know what else to do.

Can anyone help please?

Anyone know of a way to access the 9012 menu without the original remote? I purchased a unit without one that is stuck in demo mode! Any help?

I don't know (you'd need to know the "Screen Mode" code), but here's the remote: http://www.dvdremotecontrols.com/Mfrs/Sony/SonyDSS/RM-Y823.htm

May be cheaper elsewhere.

well, whatever remote you are using, if it has an aspect button that works for you DHG, you are in luck.  That is the screen mode button.  Otherwise, you need to get a remote that has that functionality or you need to get the original remote.

5.1 should broadcast VBI information in SF area (works for me), do the G* test as described on this forum and then force the digital update for this channel. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully - it should work. The analog channel (9) became useless right around end of February. If you have a comcast cable card that channel would be 705.

Here in Berkeley (San Francisco market) I'm also trying to recover from a reset TVGOS, with the too-old firmware. So, I performed the force procedure for channel 5.1 . Currently the TVGOS chip has the _old_ firmware, and it is seeing VBI with valid TVGOS information on the ATSC channel.

Does this really mean that an ATSC channel is transmitting NTSC vertical interval data just for TVGOS systems?

A warning message to anyone using 9012 to get to the G* Test screen -- it's easy to accidentally double-click your remote and accidentally reset the TV Guide since it's the first option on the TV guide menu.  Don't ask me how I know this.  I've started using 971397135 instead to get the G* Test.
