Thanks, Mark and Frank, for the quick replies. I know I have the latest firmware and KYW is supposedly the one carrying the TVGOS data so I will try your suggestions. Interestingly, while fooling around following Spiff's instructions I found a System Screen Statistics menu I had never seen before. It listed the Host Channel blank but the VBI Channel is 1:0-503, which is the HD cable channel for KYW-FIOS Bucks county. Not sure what that means. I do have an antenna to hook up to it (upon moving in, it was the only option!) and will have to crawl around the attic where it's located to get a good signal. I will let you know what happens!

Lisa, something you may want to try (since FIOS is the wildcard in this setup)... If you're close enough to Roxborough that you can receive KYW digital (channel 3.1) with an indoor antenna (e.g. rabbit ears), try hooking up said antenna to the antenna input (while the cable input is still connected to FIOS), rescan for both cable and antenna, make sure you're getting a good picture on 3.1, then resetting TVGOS and telling it you have BOTH cable and antenna. That way, you will not be reliant on FIOS for supplying your TVGOS data, but rather the OTA signal from KYW.

KYW unfortunately sends out some of the packets necessary to establish the grid VERY infrequently, so as Mark said, it still may take a seemingly very long time to get a grid, especially with the FIOS lineup complication. The discussion/debate/conjecture over why some cities send such packets so infrequently (and the mechanics of how that delays grid building) has been going on for a long long time over on the AVS forum.

Spiff72,
Thank you SO MUCH for creating this site. I am clueless  about my Sony DHG and am learning a ton on here. I just recently moved towns around Philly and switched from using a Comcast cable card to Verizon FIOS. I receive the channels and the correct time on my DHG, but no TV Guide. It's been 2 weeks and the screen still says it is rebuilding the channel list based on my recent setup change. I followed your instructions on running a G* Factory Test and the results were: VBI, Serial and IR Tests failed; under VBI packet statistics, there were 0 under the VBI Good, Fixed and Bad columns; and 1 Good under ATSC: PAT and ATSC: PMT. This is a foreign language to me so I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question but: Based on those results, does that mean I should not continue with trying to force the digital host channel?

Thanks again!

Lisa,

What channel is carrying the TVGOS data? Is it an analog channel, or a digital channel? Have you updated the firmware in the Sony to 1.2.21? If not, and the VBI Test is failing, it indicates that there isn't data on the channel you are running it on. You must be tuned to a channel that is carrying the TVGOS data in order for the VBI Test to pass. However, if you are running the 1.2.21 firmware, it will only pass the VBI Test on an analog channel, and not a digital channel (It's confusing, I know).

Since your clock is correct, the DVR has found TVGOS data somewhere. There really isn't any reason to do the "force host" procedure. That procedure is left over from the days before digital when people were receiving both digital and analog data. They could (in theory) force the host to the digital channel, and get data from the digital channel rather than the analog channel (which the Sony prefers). The fact that your clock is correct proves that the Sony has found the data, but unfortunately in the digital environment, it can take from a day up to a month to get the grid back.

Mark

I got the verizon cable card last week, unit worked perfectly with comcast cable card in philly area, both motorola cards btw, and now I get all fios stations but the guide continually states it will take 24 hours to load, and never does.  I cannot get to the screen that asks me what cable system I am on.  I cannot record what I want and have manually loaded the pbs and cbs channels in both the analog and digital under the channel +/- section.  Had a second card installed but still no luck.  Anyone know how to solve this, and I did the split of the cable line and put it in both cable and antenna jacks as well.  Frustrated beyond belief, one last thing, i get the corect time on my clock

Thank you very much Mark. I feel a little silly that I didn't find that myself.

Some people in this site say that they're using postal code for searching. However, some of them, postal code is not working then. Well, that is good to you ATC that you have now multiple guides now, that's soundly interesting.

Recently a local channel  (ABC6 in columbus ohio) moved their frequency and said to rescan your tv or converter box. I did this on my tv and picked up the channel again. I can't find a way to do this on my Sony DVR. So I can't record anything on that channel. The channel that my tv has the station on is the same as it was before (6.1) but my dvr just gets the message by that station to rescan.

Can anyone help?  Thanks

Go to Menu -> Preferences -> CH +/- -> Scan

After buying a Sony 32EX700, I find that V10 of the guide accepts my wierd channel numbers. I can map 106.1201 to analog cable channel 5. When I tune to the guide's ABC channel, I now get HD. This function also follows to the Favorites display. I know it doesn't help you (us) much, but I wanted to keep you in the loop.
